1) Information we collect
- Network + device data: IP address, timestamps, approximate location derived from IP, browser and device identifiers, user agent, language, time zone, screen/device/network characteristics, and related technical signals used to operate, secure, and moderate the service.
- Chat + upload data: text messages, file uploads, and session/channel metadata may be processed or logged for safety, abuse prevention, investigations, service integrity, debugging, and moderation.
- Video safety data: in standard video chat, the service may capture periodic low-resolution safety screenshots and process or store related moderation metadata, including report links and model or review results. Unmonitored does not capture routine safety frames or perform routine automated chat checks. When a user submits a report in either section, the report may include recent incoming text and a current frame of the reported user's video.
- Reports + enforcement data: when you report someone, we may store the report type, reason, time, match/session identifiers, IP/device/fingerprint data, and related evidence used to investigate or take action.
- Payments: if you purchase paid features, payment processors may collect billing and transaction information directly from you. We may receive limited transaction and status metadata.
- Analytics + advertising data: on some public pages we use third-party analytics and advertising services that may receive IP address, cookie or device identifiers, page views, referrer information, and browser/device data.
2) How we use information
- Provide the service, including matching, messaging, video chat, uploads, payments, and support.
- Protect users and the service through anti-spam controls, ban enforcement, abuse detection, moderation, and safety review.
- Investigate reports, preserve evidence, respond to incidents, and enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines.
- Debug, monitor, secure, and improve reliability, performance, and product quality.
- Comply with legal obligations, respond to valid legal process, and prevent harm.
3) Cookies, local storage, and tracking
We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for essential functionality, fraud prevention, device/session continuity, preferences, analytics, and in some places advertising measurement or delivery. Blocking these technologies may prevent parts of the site from working correctly.
4) Sharing and disclosure
We may disclose information in the following circumstances:
- With service providers that help us operate the site, such as moderation, hosting, infrastructure, storage, security, analytics, advertising, and payment providers.
- To investigate abuse, protect users, prevent harm, and enforce our policies.
- To comply with law, respond to valid legal requests, make emergency disclosures, or cooperate with law enforcement.
- When child safety, exploitation, enticement, trafficking, or similar harm is reported or apparent, we may preserve and disclose relevant information as required or permitted by law, including to NCMEC’s CyberTipline and law enforcement.
We do not represent the service as a no-logging or no-monitoring product. We do not sell personal information for money. On some public pages, disclosures to analytics or advertising partners may be treated as “sharing” under certain privacy laws.
5) Data retention and preservation
We retain data for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes above, including operation, moderation, security, abuse prevention, and legal compliance. Retention can vary by data type and by incident. We may place specific records, including chats, reports, screenshots, files, device/profile data, and related metadata, on a longer preservation hold when a matter involves child safety, threats, exploitation, fraud, abuse investigations, legal process, or other safety-critical review.
6) Children and safety
OmegleHang is adults-only (18+). If we become aware that a user may be underage or that conduct may involve child sexual exploitation, grooming, enticement, trafficking, or related abuse, we may restrict access, preserve relevant information, and make reports or disclosures required or permitted by law.
If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact local law enforcement immediately. You can also report child sexual exploitation to NCMEC’s CyberTipline at missingkids.org/gethelpnow/cybertipline.
7) Your choices and privacy requests
- Disconnect at any time.
- Use browser controls to block cookies/local storage, understanding that some site features may stop working.
- Standard video chat may capture routine safety frames. Unmonitored skips routine automated checks, but reports can still include a video frame and recent incoming text.
- Contact us with privacy questions or requests. If applicable law gives you access, deletion, correction, or opt-out rights, include enough information for us to identify the records at issue.
8) Contact inbox and optional first-party analytics
When you submit the contact form, this site stores the topic, message, optional reply email, reference, and submission time in a private operator inbox. Contact records expire after 90 days unless separately preserved for a legitimate legal or safety purpose. Use Contact for privacy questions or requests, and do not include passwords, payment details, or explicit media.
Optional first-party analytics are off until you enable them in Privacy preferences. They count public page visits, video and text chat starts, matches found, Next presses, session endings, and returning visits by broad source category. The stored counters do not contain message content, camera frames, email addresses, full referral URLs, raw IP addresses, or a persistent analytics identifier. Counters are retained for 90 days. A browser preference and a previous opted-in visit date are kept locally to recognize a return. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control disable these optional counts.
Essential safety and device-continuity storage is separate, including the safety device identifier used by the chat service. Declining optional analytics does not block chat. Turning them off stops future events and removes the local returning-visit marker; it does not identify or remove a particular contribution already included in aggregate counters. Hosting access logs and external advertisers may process data under separate policies.
